Why the Blank Is More Expensive in Nevada

Here is the part specific to this state, and it is the reason we wrote the page at all.

Under NRS 86.231, a Nevada LLC has to keep a registered agent in place with a street address where process can be served. Not for the first year. Continuously, for as long as the company exists. So the arrangement on offer is a permanent obligation with half its price withheld at the moment of decision.

Now add Nevada's exit toll. Most states let you change registered agents for free or for pocket change. Nevada charges $60 for the statement of change, which puts it among the more expensive states in the country for simply switching providers.

Put those two facts together and the shape of the problem appears:

An unpublished price is a mild irritation where the exit is free. Where the exit costs $60, it becomes a decision made with the information deliberately arriving last. That is the objection, and it holds regardless of what the number turns out to be.

Changing Agents in Nevada

The mechanics are simple enough to state in a paragraph. Nevada moves an appointment with one acceptance-and-change filing that names your entity, the agent stepping down, and the agent stepping in along with a Nevada street address, signed by the arriving agent to accept the role.
